Description: Item/Description: African tribal two piece lidded trinket box. Hand-crafted from bronze and decorated with applied sticks, swirl designs. Studio artisan decorative box. Domed lid lifts off casket like base. Beautiful in design and craftsmanship. Brutalist. Hallmark: incised maker's mark on base. Possibly used as a container for African chew sticks which are a twigs or roots from indigenous trees and shrubs that are chewed to clean teeth and improve gum health; a common method of oral hygiene utilized in parts of Africa, Asia, Arabia, and the Middle East. Another possibility is that bundled sticks convey strength. A Kenyan proverb states "sticks in a bundle are unbreakable."
