Description: Item/Description: Antique oil painting after Mykola Kornylovych Pymonenko's Fortune-Telling on Christmastide. 1888. Unknown artist. Unsigned.
Christmas Divination / Fortune Tellers / Two Little-Russian Peasant Girls Playing at Fortune Telling. Painting features two young girls, illuminated by candle light, as they playfully try to discern the identities of their future husbands in the shadows cast on the wall. Pimonenko's original painting hangs n the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, and a smaller version is in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Kiev.
(Nikolai Kornilovich Pimonenko,1862-1912). Ukrainian realist painter who is best known for his urban and rural genre scenes of farmers, country folk and working-class people.
Material: Oil on canvas board, wood frame
Dimensions: Image size: Height: 23 1/2"; Width: 17 3/4". Framed: Height: 31"; Width: 25"
Condition: Warping, age and loss to canvas. Frame shows age, wear, chipping and loss to wood and paint.
