Description: Item/Description: Amazing piece of Maritime memorabilia. Ocean liner dock light reads "Andrea Doria Passengers Board Here". Marbelite Traffic Signal Company Housing. Back of light case marked: Pat. Pend. / Marbelite / New York, USA. At some point this piece was modified to fit a standard wall plug.
Purchased by previous owner at an Upstate NY antique shop approximately 40 years ago.
SS Andrea Doria, was an ocean liner known for its sinking in 1956, where of the 1,706 passengers and crew, 1,660 were rescued, while 46 passengers and crew lost their lives. On July 25, 1956 as the Andrea Doria was approaching the coast of Massachusetts, heading for New York City, when it collided with the MS Stockholm and became one of history's most infamous maritime disasters. The Andrea Doria, an Italian Line Ship that was home-ported in Genoa, Italy, made 51 westbound crossings to New York.
