Description: Item/Description: Entitled, "Esplanadia," this abstact , numbered serigraph print is by American artist and sculptor, James Michalopoulos. It depicts a grand New Orleans house, presumably on Esplanade Avenue. Unusual slant and angling of buildings. Signature illuminated streetlamp. Artist signed lower right: J. Michalopoulos. Numbered lower left: 20/176. Painted distressed wood frame, cardboard backing.
James Michalopoulos was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Greek immigrants. He studied art at the University of New Orleans, New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, and Bowdoin College. Upon graduation, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he currently works and lives. Michalopoulos is best known for his skewed, post-impressionistic depictions of traditional New Orleans architecture and his posters for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
