Description: Item/Description: Somber, charcoal-like, framed lithograph by American artist, Lewis Rubenstein depicts a toiling woman harvester in fields, a child atop her back and one behind. The figures appear to be dressed in Southwestern clothing. Titled in pencil on bottom: Gleaners II. Artist's initials on lower right: LWR. Signed in pencil lower right: Lewis Rubenstein. Numbered lower left: 1/30, 2nd ed. Lewis W. Rubenstein was a renowned 20th century American painter and printmaker. Harvard educated, he travelled to Paris and Tokyo where he studied and created frescos and lithographies under master artists. His works have been shown in Museums and galleries world-wide, including the Whitney Museum, New York and the Library of Congress, Washington. This work, Gleaners II, is the second in a series, showing workers toiling at their jobs.
