Framed in a grand gilt wood frame. Double lined canvas. The R.W.A. or Royal West of England Academy was the first art gallery to be established in Bristol, England and is one of the longest-running regional galleries and art schools in the United Kingdom. First established in the 1840s by a popular group of landscape artists, it was originally known as the Bristol Society. In 1913 it was granted its royal title by King George V, who became its patron. Alfred Horford was a member of this esteemed academy.
